What I've Worn: Button Down, Leather and Scuba Sunnies

It's hot. Too hot. It's bright. Too bright. I shouldn't complain, summer is here. Yay. Suffice to say, I am more of a winter girl.

Why I chose to do a deckshot today, I do not know. I was verbally assaulted by the Daycare Mob next door but still nailed today's post in one frowny shot. Yusssss!

PS: When I took a chance in 2006 on a neon yellow, mirrored pair of what can only be described as scuba-esque sunnies, little did I know they would be the on trend little bastards they are today. As for the LB shirt, no chances taken there. That's one a solid winner for the wardrobe.

wearing: Little Brother shirt, vintage leather shorts, Converse lo's and random scuba sunnies.

What I've Worn: Auckland Anniversary Day

The best thing about the days from the 24th of December through to the 7th of February is the high hit rate of public holidays every year. Hello long weekends!

The dumbest thing for me about the days from the 24th of December to the 7th of February is the fact that I am not working and don't get to appreciate the public holidays or long weekends like most others. I feel ripped off. Now, before you start a crazy rant about having to not work, let me remind you about children. Children are a 24/7 job and there are no public holidays.

Johnson took me out for an Auckland Anniversary Day coffee. Thanks Johnson, I needed the break. Smiley face.

Before you berate me for wearing jeans on such a sunny day...THEY HAVE MASSIVE HOLES IN THE KNEES! My body was sufficiently aerated, thank you for your concern.

wearing: C_A tee, Nobody denim jeans, mirrored aviators from New World and Cheap Monday suede ankle boots.

What I've Worn: Throwback Graffiti Shoes and Holey Knee Jeans

Some items in your closet are up for debate but doable, some are hands-down winners and the odd one is relegated to 'only-for-this-occasion' status. Then there is the relationship testing division; certain wardrobe pieces that you love/he hates or vice versa and never the twain shall meet. That item is this pair of pointy stilettos with black graffiti-esque words on a white base. Colour scheme and polarizing object comparisons aside, the dividing nature of the shoes created a certain tension that seemed to be almost a deal-breaker! Over a shoe? Really? I think it was the thought that these shoes were pre-Boyfriend. AND had the word 'sex' on them. I think the whole why's/where's/what's and who's history to the shoes made the Boyfriend a little uncomfortable.

If you must know they were:

  • bought from my old workplace at Number One Shoes,
  • were purchased as a joke and dare from my staff,
  • from the section of assorted over runs and samples and were one of only two pairs in stock - collectable!
  • never purchased or worn for scoring by me
  • worn and scored in by my then flatmate.

Love or hate. Pick your side. I know what side I'm on.

wearing: C_A tee, old tweed hat, Boyfriends pullover, Nobody Denim jeans and old Number One Shoes.

What I've Worn: Karen Walker for Saturday Morning Coffee

There's been a stir in the air. So often trying to find 'the right place' to take a snap for the ole blog here leads to either a walk downstairs to uncomfortably pose before anyone sees or clearing a  week's worth of crap off the bedroom chair. Sometimes it involves having daycare kiddies yelling at me, "Hey laydee? What are yooooou doing?" while I pose-pose-pose on the deck. Did I mention there is a daycare next door? Yeah, there is. Anyway, it can turn into a circus trying to edit what you see in my outfit photos. Editing ones surroundings while one has a crawling, mess making, grab your stuff and pull baby is pointless and stupid. I live where I live surrounded by my ordinary, unimpressive stuff. And it's messy. And aesthetically normal. In fact, I don't even think it has an 'aesthetic'.

Here's me, in my kitchen, making my pre-proper-coffee instant coffee. God bless Avalanche Fairtrade Coffee. I also tend to drink from a large glass because we usually have no clean cups come Saturday morning. S**t just got real, yo!

PS: Found another way to wear my Karen Walker tunic and can picture this over cropped denim or trouser or a chambray midi skirt come the cooler months.

wearing: Karen Walker tunic dress, Elizabeth & JamesTEXTILE shirt, Cheap Monday suede boots.

What I've Worn: The Illustrated Edition #2

I've lost my will to snap myself. I've worn the same t-shirt for three days in a row. It's a famine of beauty honey, a famine of beauty. I wish Andre Leon Talley was my spirit animal.
wearing: my other, other tee, ripped nobody jeans, bedrock bones hair tie and converse.

What I've Worn: My Other Other NY Tee

I've been playing catch up with the posts and as you can see, pretty much not left the house for the last 7 days. Let's crunch some numbers:

1x Big Day Out attended
1x lazy trip across the road to Wendy's
1x reluctant trip to the supermarket
5x lazy sessions of legs dangling out the sliding door to get some sun soaked
7x days of enjoying The Cooper
6x days of NOT posting
1x day of mega posting
2x sleep ins
4x early nights
1.5x seasons of Jersey Shore re-watched
2x discs of Dylan Moran watched
7x days stalking online for the release of I Am Giant's video to see if I made the final cut and feed the narcissist in me

What I've Worn: The Missing Week - Wednesday

I have one word for you but I don't know if I'm supposed to go with "ies" or "y's". I'm not grammatically or sometimes even, English-ally inclined, so I pick it as an "ies" job.

I have ONE WORD for YOU: Toasties. The summer meal, I swear. Your average, everyday cheese and onion toasty. When feeling swish, I may go cheese and ham. Always with tomato sauce on the side, sometimes with Yum-Yum mayo, never with relish.
wearing: my other, other i love ny tee, cutoffs, converse

Tuesday, January 24

What I've Worn: The Missing Week - Tuesday

Wore my sailor hat. Wore it with pride. Revelled in it.
wearing: sailor hat, as colour 3/4 sleeve raglan, cutoffs, jack purcells

Monday, January 23

What I've Worn: The Missing Week - Monday

What I've Worn: The Missing Week - Sunday

Saturday, January 21

What I've Worn: The Missing Week - Saturday

Yeah, so one minute it was the Big Day Out and now it's almost a week since. I'm back-posting the past week because, quite frankly, I've been enjoying the good, good weather and my cool, cool family and revelling in being [almost] offline for days. Recharged and ready to get back in this game.

As for the outfit a day rules, consider them bent. Bent but not broken. I physically took pictures everyday but could not be assed editing or putting them up.

Revel in my normalness people!
wearing: camo tee, cutoffs.

What I've Worn, Where I've Been and Who I've Seen: The Big Day Out Episode

Friday 20th January, 2012. The last Big Day Out for New Zealand. Possibly the smallest Big Day Out for New Zealand. I was stoked to be a part of it and delighted in the fact I had no time wasted waiting for toilets, drinks and food or lost time/people in transit between acts.

Acts seen:
DJ Sir-Vere [until his gear got wet and pakaru]
Das Racist
Bulletproof
Six60
Gin Wigmore
Kimbra
I Am Giant [and also was in their video]
Foster The People
Kasabian
Mt Eden
Soundgarden
Nero

Acts missed:
David Dallas.
Parkway Drive.

The two I REALLY wanted to see. Missed. Pissed.

But I went for free so cannot complain. Thanks Johnson!
wearing: i love ny diy tank, denim cutoffs, richie's shirt, herschel backpack, asos sunnies, frill socks, converse, casio watch and one of spades bracelets.

What I've Worn: Merino + Tweed

What is it about smugness and satisfaction? Though I find it an appalling trait in others and it tends to make my blood boil when I witness or am on the receiving end, I committed 'S and S' tonight. And I am not proud.

But I can see why people do it.

It does feel good. An internal, neh, neh, neh, neeeh, neh.

The virtual slap in the in the face.

The non-contact version of a giving someone a good punch in the face.

With words.

And a knowing, satisfied stance.

wearing: barkers merino pullover, juliette hogan skirt, DV loafers and casio watch.

What I've Seen: Pre-Fall Collections 2012

Sometimes I'm into an entirely styled look, sometimes I'm attracted to the zany details and sometimes it's just the idea or mood evoked by a collection.

Here's what I see when I see pre-fall 2012.

What I've Worn: Leather Legs + Snapback

Beautiful day.

The Cooper commando crawling like he invented it.

Cows came to say hi.

Bought tweed shortalls.

Dinner with G'Ma.
wearing: mitchell and ness snapback, as colour raglan tee, levi's denim jacket, leather pants, converse optical white lo's.

What I've Worn: The Illustrated Edition

I am far too lazy to take a picture. So I drew you one. A crap one but I think you get the idea.

wearing: anthracite pullover, federation jeans and navy converse hi's.

What I've Worn: Orange Top, Jeans + Sneakers

It was time to revisit the sneans and it seemed much more publicly acceptable this time around. Which could mean one of two things:

1. The boat has sailed on sneans and I'm on the dock with other late adopters, or
2. I'm not ahead or behind the game but more 'on trend' aka totes fail.

Either way, I did it and I'll do it again. If only to air out my old Le Coq Sportif runners, in cord with orange accents. Why I haven't worn these more often is a friggin' blasphemy because they are "Hashtag, totes amaze" to wear.
wearing: mitchell and ness snapback, asos top, federation jeans and le coq sportif sneakers.

Sunday, January 15

What I've Worn: Orange, Green and Blue

I woke up to a sunny day. I ate Pocky and Japanese strawberry filled koalas. I wore colour. All in all, a good day.

I donned only a part of my beloved orange suit as I'm waiting for the right moment to wear the full ensemble. It will come when I least expect it, I'm sure. Perhaps a wedding or maybe the next time I do the food shopping? Who knows. But know this; I've already planned to wear the top with my K-Dub pegs pants tomorrow.

wearing: asos shell top, tile shorts and bag, elizabeth & james linen stripe shirt and kathryn wilson 'twyford' brogues.

Saturday, January 14

What I've Worn: Pleated Skirt + Tee

My day in no particular order:

  • cider
  • cleaning
  • basking
  • Jersey Shore
  • baking
  • laughing
  • being in awe of The Cooper's mad crawling skills [he's only 5.5 months]
  • food shopping
  • watching two grown men fumble about on a boat and then internally giggling at their three trips to hardware stores, '...just to pick up a new drill bit', '...aah, we'll need to get some plywood' and then, '...just get a few things.' All of which took approximately 2.5 hours per trip. Man shopping does exist.

wearing: commoners_alike tee, burgundy pleat skort and converse lo's.

And Richie makes it onto the blog for his choice in 'Boat Fixing' attire.

What I've Worn: Black Friday

If you're in my part of the world, I totally f**ked my stupid idea of a post a day. If you're an international reader, I SO DIDN'T AND I'M STILL IN THIS GAME!

I had the photos in the camera. And there they stayed until I woke up this morning feeling rather shady but surprisingly refreshed after an impromptu bbq and a non-specific amount of alcoholic based beverages.

It was a perfect non-Black Friday.

Apart from the constant flow of jibes about my attire.

To that I say, forgeddabouddit.

wearing: mum's denim vest, commoners_alike tee, twentyseven names 'lainey' pants, puma kicks and Richie's granddads aviators. RIP Granddad David.

What I've Worn: Little Brother Button Down and Loafers

I got snapped in more ways than one today. In the literal sense of having my photo taken for this here blog.
And secondly with a parcel of goods, addressed to me, containing [more] clothes from an offshore website by my very understanding, though now allocated only a smidgen of wardrobe space, boyfriend.
My cries of, "But they were on sale!" fell on angry and therefore deaf, ears.

I've been put on watch.

I'll have to get sneakier then. Don't let the 'Confused Secretary' ensemble fool you.

wearing: little brother shirt from barkers, juliette hogan skirt, captain badge from wocolate, madewell pointelle socks, dv loafers and bag from asos and my trusty bic.

NB: I received my replacement Little Brother shirt from Barkers and have avoided fly spray cans like the plague. A DIY is in the pipeline for my ruined shirt.

What I've Worn: The Le Oops Episode

It is not often you sit down to lunch with a teenage sister and of-a-certain-age mother and have the term, 'Le oops!' dropped into the conversation by aforementioned, certain-aged mother. I can tell you, it rather sounds like someone dropped the 'c-bomb'*. What can I say? I have a mother who has some grasp of a trending Twitter/Facebook vernacular.

Either that, or she's been hacking into my accounts. Though, the common text request for, 'Whts mi psswrd 4 da fone akownt on da cmpta" suggests this option is highly unlikely.

I'm pretty sure I'm not a common practitioner of the entire 'Le' movement when speaking 'le-face-to-face'. But I could be 'le wrong'.

That just leaves my sister for her to be gleaning this 'le habit' from.

'Le probably'.
was wearing clockwise from top left: little brother shirt from barkers, casio watch via wocolate, men's wool walk shorts from St Vincent de Paul's, kate sylvester boots.

was wearing clockwise from top left: little brother stripe tee from barkers, casio watch via wocolate, iris apfel-esque sunnies, canvas stripe belt from barkers, men's wool walk shorts from St Vincent de Paul's, jack purcell helen ox shoes via asos.

*Here's a hint - it isn't 'c' for 'can't'. Though if you say 'can't' quick enough with a Scottish accent, you'll know the word I mean. Try it.

What I've Worn: Tee, Shorts and Icing Sugar

An uneventful day. An uneventful ensemble. Hey, we don't all look dapper 365. And here's the proof to go with your pudding.

A.M: Made raspberry cupcakes. Battled with the sifter and the icing sugar. What did not make it into the buttercream, went on the bench, the floor and a substantial amount on my t-shirt and shoes. Random smudges located on face and in hair. Went to service station to buy milk to go in tea to drink with cupcakes.

P.M: Picked up car from mechanic. Car passed warrant and got a new seatbelt. I passed out and got a hefty bill. Paid it on the spot. Wistfully thought of all the sweet gears I could've bought in Mr Porter's sale with that $700 bucks.
wearing: commoners_alike tee, old cut-offs, little brother quilted jacket, jack purcells, mitchell and ness snapback and casio watch.

No outfit changes necessary. This is not L.A. It's Constellation. Never not keeping it real.

What I've Worn: Navy on Blue on Denim Blue on Navy

I had lunch with Johnson, from Farro, while watching "The Only Way Is Essex'.

That is all.

wearing: little brother cardi and button down, mitchell and ness snapback, levis and navy converse hi's.

What I've Worn: Lounging Pants and Tee

This post will be filed under "REGRETS". I don't lounge like Rumi, or Denni or like I hang at the Chateau Marmont.

I lounge like this.

That is all.
wearing: commoners_alike tee, karen walker boat pants and madewell socks.

I put proper pants on after I tweeted I was still in my Jim Jams. Otherwise you would've seen these.

What I've Worn: Madame Hawke Blouse with Chaos and Harmony Heels

I haven't slept yet. I've been awake since 7am Friday 6th January. The Cooper and I are alone since Richie left for a diving weekend. I am paranoid. I am Joe's worry wart. I couldn't sleep for fear of finding a dark, ominous figure standing outside our door, in the rain, in a yellow mac and hat, yielding a big hook and wanting to rip my intestines out.

I probably won't sleep again tonight.

But that's because I came home with The Jersey Shore Seasons' 1 to 3 instead of the pink mens shirt I had obsessed over all night. It was thanks to this image from Celine AW 11.
Celine A/W 11

I decided I needed a pink shirt to match my pink trousers, transforming it into a pseudo-Celine-esque pink suit and hence becoming something I would probably wear every. day.

Or not.

I'll try and sleep on it.

Meanwhile, check the Chaos & Harmony 'Bobby' heels I obsessed over and Got from Richie for Christmas? Cool ay.

What I've Worn: Huffer Dress and Mum's Denim Vest

It used to be a no-no to borrow stuff from your Mum unless it was to:
1. Make fun of her sartorial choices back in the day.
2. Kit oneself for a dress-up party.
3. Because you had nothing sensible for that job interview since you blew your week's wages on a night out/new shoes/organic ingredients to host a dinner party/more new shoes.
4. Because it was really freaking cold at the camp site, Mum had the perfect Kathmandu polar fleece suitable for sub-arctic temperatures and no-one was going to judge you in it's toasty warmth.

Then something shifted.

Now it's perfectly acceptable, if not de rigueur, to pilfer from Mum's 'Archives'.

Thanks Mum.

Unfortunately there are no major labels hiding in the depths of Mum's wardrobe. Fashion was never her thing. She wasn't some cool chick back in the day, carefree and living an enviable life - stylishly, of course - proven only by faded photographs in the family album. I think I remember only one picture of her with lipstick on. She wouldn't know how to dress herself if presented with anything other than black pants, jeans or some variation on a tee shirt. She doesn't do knit wear. It's polar fleece or nothing. She only ever owned two pairs of heels: one black pair for work as an usher at the cinemas and a purple suede pair for going out.

I don't recall her ever wearing the purple pair.

If she had a blog, it would probably run similar to mine. Minimal swaying of the pendulum either side of centre line that seems to be my uniform.

Sometimes I wish I was a 'Jalouse' girl. Wait, in a sense I am. I am the chick at 1 minute 23 seconds...

wearing: asos sunnies, huffer 'shirty' dress, mum's vest, optical white converse lo's, bedrock bone bracelet and one of spade's 'hot tamali' bracelet and cdg wallet.

What I've Worn: Wild West Shirt and Sherie Muijs

Sometimes people want to rain on your parade.

Sometimes people want to rain on your parade because today is not the right day for your parade.

Sometimes people want to rain on your parade because it sucks and they are trying to save you from yourself.

I've yet to decide which is the true motivation behind Richie's refusal to accept my wanting to wear a print on print ensemble; I've surely been influenced by the abundance of bloggers featuring the Zara floral shirt and trouser combo lately. However, he was right [don't tell him]. The navy Sherie Muijs trouser I opted for was a superior sartorial choice and the perfect 'grown-up' trouser to sedate the childish nature of my wild west shirt.
wearing: topman shirt, sherie muijs trouser, asos leopard belt and shoes, glasson socks and stolen girlfriends club pinky ring.

Where I've Been and What I've Worn: Nagisa and Double Denim

Rigid denim and a full course meal at Nagisa are not a good mix.

The meal was awesome, as always and I ate too much. I drank more Ramune than I should have and sipped warm sake. I took Instax of us being chopstick Walrus [probably a big cultural no-no] and dropped more edadame beans on the floor than someone of my age and dexterity ever should.

But I repeat, rigid denim and a full course meal at Nagisa are not a good mix.

However, I still champion rigid denim over stretch. Just saying.
wearing: levis jacket and jeans, sherie muijs boyfriend tee, converse hi's, casio watch and herschel backpack.

What I've Worn: Thugged Out Sweatshirt, Leather Collar and Docs

Since I had this stupid idea, I've regretted the public declaration of and committal to it on almost an hourly basis. Never more so than once I fell ill. Sartorial choices are never at their optimal when your body/brain speaks more 'Fashion Ugh' than 'Fashion Editor' Barbie.

But I promised.

Here's the Supermarket Episode.

Where I've Been and What I've Worn: Doctors Office and Double Denim

Where do I begin? I felt sick a couple of days ago, and sicker yesterday but rather than do something about it, I hoped for one of three things:

1. That it went away on it's own. Cost factor = zero.
2. That if it didn't go away, it also didn't get worse but didn't get so bad I had to see a doctor. Cost factor = moaning = zero.
3. That if it didn't go away, it didn't get intolerable until the 3rd of January. Cost factor = standard doctors fees.

But I got option four, which I had hoped not to have to consider as an option:

4. It didn't go away, it got worse and intolerable on the 2nd of January. Cost factor = standard docotors fees + public holiday surcharge + public holiday surcharge on antibiotics.

Not happy. Feel better knowing that I'm going to eventually feel better and I am not dying. But still not happy.

Neither is my bank balance.

$117.30 NZD later and a telling off from the doctor for leaving it so late, I bring you 'Doctor  Office Chic'.
wearing: levis jacket, little brother striped tee, l-fit jeans and navy converse hi's.

Where I've Been and What I've Worn: New Years Eve at Wendy's and Alexander Wang

Hello 2012.

Funnily enough, not much feels different but I admit I have been in a phunk that could lead one to think I was on the eve of my 50th birthday. It happens every New Year; I analyse my failings and visualise a souped up new version of myself and life that I struggle to attain for about a month and then let fall by the wayside come February. And then come New Years, analyse my failing to live up to that supposed 'New and Improved' version of myself and my life...and the cycle continues. Richie does not enjoy New Years. Mainly because I'm such a horrible, moody, broody Negatron.

I should change that.

But first, I have to want to change.

And I like being a Negatron sometimes. I think it's healthy and keeps one on the path of reality.

Bye 2011.

I will miss you. You weren't the best year if I'm being honest. Maybe my expectations were a little high?
