I have ONE WORD for YOU: Toasties. The summer meal, I swear. Your average, everyday cheese and onion toasty. When feeling swish, I may go cheese and ham. Always with tomato sauce on the side, sometimes with Yum-Yum mayo, never with relish.

It was time to revisit the sneans and it seemed much more publicly acceptable this time around. Which could mean one of two things:

1. The boat has sailed on sneans and I'm on the dock with other late adopters, or
2. I'm not ahead or behind the game but more 'on trend' aka totes fail.

Either way, I did it and I'll do it again. If only to air out my old Le Coq Sportif runners, in cord with orange accents. Why I haven't worn these more often is a friggin' blasphemy because they are "Hashtag, totes amaze" to wear.

I woke up to a sunny day. I ate Pocky and Japanese strawberry filled koalas. I wore colour. All in all, a good day.

I donned only a part of my beloved orange suit as I'm waiting for the right moment to wear the full ensemble. It will come when I least expect it, I'm sure. Perhaps a wedding or maybe the next time I do the food shopping? Who knows. But know this; I've already planned to wear the top with my K-Dub pegs pants tomorrow.

I had the photos in the camera. And there they stayed until I woke up this morning feeling rather shady but surprisingly refreshed after an impromptu bbq and a non-specific amount of alcoholic based beverages.

It was a perfect non-Black Friday.

And secondly with a parcel of goods, addressed to me, containing [more] clothes from an offshore website by my very understanding, though now allocated only a smidgen of wardrobe space, boyfriend.
My cries of, "But they were on sale!" fell on angry and therefore deaf, ears.

It is not often you sit down to lunch with a teenage sister and of-a-certain-age mother and have the term, 'Le oops!' dropped into the conversation by aforementioned, certain-aged mother. I can tell you, it rather sounds like someone dropped the 'c-bomb'*. What can I say? I have a mother who has some grasp of a trending Twitter/Facebook vernacular.

Either that, or she's been hacking into my accounts. Though, the common text request for, 'Whts mi psswrd 4 da fone akownt on da cmpta" suggests this option is highly unlikely.

I'm pretty sure I'm not a common practitioner of the entire 'Le' movement when speaking 'le-face-to-face'. But I could be 'le wrong'.

That just leaves my sister for her to be gleaning this 'le habit' from.

An uneventful day. An uneventful ensemble. Hey, we don't all look dapper 365. And here's the proof to go with your pudding.

A.M: Made raspberry cupcakes. Battled with the sifter and the icing sugar. What did not make it into the buttercream, went on the bench, the floor and a substantial amount on my t-shirt and shoes. Random smudges located on face and in hair. Went to service station to buy milk to go in tea to drink with cupcakes.

P.M: Picked up car from mechanic. Car passed warrant and got a new seatbelt. I passed out and got a hefty bill. Paid it on the spot. Wistfully thought of all the sweet gears I could've bought in Mr Porter's sale with that $700 bucks.

I haven't slept yet. I've been awake since 7am Friday 6th January. The Cooper and I are alone since Richie left for a diving weekend. I am paranoid. I am Joe's worry wart. I couldn't sleep for fear of finding a dark, ominous figure standing outside our door, in the rain, in a yellow mac and hat, yielding a big hook and wanting to rip my intestines out.

I probably won't sleep again tonight.

But that's because I came home with The Jersey Shore Seasons' 1 to 3 instead of the pink mens shirt I had obsessed over all night. It was thanks to this image from Celine AW 11.

What I've Worn: Huffer Dress and Mum's Denim Vest

It used to be a no-no to borrow stuff from your Mum unless it was to:
1. Make fun of her sartorial choices back in the day.
2. Kit oneself for a dress-up party.
3. Because you had nothing sensible for that job interview since you blew your week's wages on a night out/new shoes/organic ingredients to host a dinner party/more new shoes.
4. Because it was really freaking cold at the camp site, Mum had the perfect Kathmandu polar fleece suitable for sub-arctic temperatures and no-one was going to judge you in it's toasty warmth.

Then something shifted.

Now it's perfectly acceptable, if not de rigueur, to pilfer from Mum's 'Archives'.

Thanks Mum.

Unfortunately there are no major labels hiding in the depths of Mum's wardrobe. Fashion was never her thing. She wasn't some cool chick back in the day, carefree and living an enviable life - stylishly, of course - proven only by faded photographs in the family album. I think I remember only one picture of her with lipstick on. She wouldn't know how to dress herself if presented with anything other than black pants, jeans or some variation on a tee shirt. She doesn't do knit wear. It's polar fleece or nothing. She only ever owned two pairs of heels: one black pair for work as an usher at the cinemas and a purple suede pair for going out.

I don't recall her ever wearing the purple pair.

If she had a blog, it would probably run similar to mine. Minimal swaying of the pendulum either side of centre line that seems to be my uniform.

Sometimes I wish I was a 'Jalouse' girl. Wait, in a sense I am. I am the chick at 1 minute 23 seconds...

I've yet to decide which is the true motivation behind Richie's refusal to accept my wanting to wear a print on print ensemble; I've surely been influenced by the abundance of bloggers featuring the Zara floral shirt and trouser combo lately. However, he was right [don't tell him]. The navy Sherie Muijs trouser I opted for was a superior sartorial choice and the perfect 'grown-up' trouser to sedate the childish nature of my wild west shirt.

Rigid denim and a full course meal at Nagisa are not a good mix.

The meal was awesome, as always and I ate too much. I drank more Ramune than I should have and sipped warm sake. I took Instax of us being chopstick Walrus [probably a big cultural no-no] and dropped more edadame beans on the floor than someone of my age and dexterity ever should.

But I repeat, rigid denim and a full course meal at Nagisa are not a good mix.

However, I still champion rigid denim over stretch. Just saying.

Where I've Been and What I've Worn: Doctors Office and Double Denim

Where do I begin? I felt sick a couple of days ago, and sicker yesterday but rather than do something about it, I hoped for one of three things:

1. That it went away on it's own. Cost factor = zero.
2. That if it didn't go away, it also didn't get worse but didn't get so bad I had to see a doctor. Cost factor = moaning = zero.
3. That if it didn't go away, it didn't get intolerable until the 3rd of January. Cost factor = standard doctors fees.

But I got option four, which I had hoped not to have to consider as an option:

4. It didn't go away, it got worse and intolerable on the 2nd of January. Cost factor = standard docotors fees + public holiday surcharge + public holiday surcharge on antibiotics.

Not happy. Feel better knowing that I'm going to eventually feel better and I am not dying. But still not happy.

Neither is my bank balance.

$117.30 NZD later and a telling off from the doctor for leaving it so late, I bring you 'Doctor Office Chic'.

Hello 2012.

Funnily enough, not much feels different but I admit I have been in a phunk that could lead one to think I was on the eve of my 50th birthday. It happens every New Year; I analyse my failings and visualise a souped up new version of myself and life that I struggle to attain for about a month and then let fall by the wayside come February. And then come New Years, analyse my failing to live up to that supposed 'New and Improved' version of myself and my life...and the cycle continues. Richie does not enjoy New Years. Mainly because I'm such a horrible, moody, broody Negatron.

I should change that.

But first, I have to want to change.

And I like being a Negatron sometimes. I think it's healthy and keeps one on the path of reality.

Until then, New Years is about to unfold before our very eyes. And New Years is a time when resolutions are made. Resolutions that fade into the abyss where faded, unrealised resolutions all get together and haunt us for the rest of our lives. Some turn into regrets, some are destined to be repeatedly bellowed for all and sundry, drunkenly every New Years Eve and some really are pursued with some commitment...until we slowly stop committing to it and committing to something else; usually it's antithesis.

This week was supposed to be some official summery weather type thing that would allow us to gloriously loll about in summery attire. Not so. Well played Mother Nature, well played - you got me. I finally dared to enter into my local mall during what is often described as the 'Silly Season" when a more apt title would be "Lot's Of Mad, Angry, Desperate, Clamouring, Pushing, Shoving, Rude, Oblivious People Letting Their Children Run Riot And Clogging Up The Car Park At 8.55am So They Can Waste All Their Money Season" if you ask me.

It had to be done. I have Post-Baby Boobies [this is not a topic up for discussion on this blog. Let's just leave it at that] and I needed underwear. Bendon had a 50% off thingy-ma-jig and it was located inside the mall.

Quite the conundrum.

I went in. I beelined for Bendon. I got measured. I got my favoured pieces. A mere 23 minutes later I emerged victorious; not to be confused with Victoria's. Happy me. Happy boobies. Happy bank balance. Within that 23 minutes the mall had transformed into a heaving beast. An 11 minute sojourn through Farmers lingerie department, also in sale mode, garnered some good basics to wear under sheer summer garments.

Listen up. I'm grinching in this post. I need to grinch. I have held this in for a long as time. Eleven months, give or take a few days. As Christmas nears, the wound has been re-opened and it must be dealt with before infection sets in and I die.

In order to focus on the healing, I needed a no-brainer to wear. In order to not feel like a loser, I needed to not be wearing my uniform. In order to be able to bitch, grinch, slouch and eventually shop, I needed to not be wearing a dress. I tend to sit cross legged whilst bitching and if in public will automatically resort to my default bitching stance.

Enter: my Sherie Muijs jumpsuit. I don't know why, but having this one piece makes me feel good. Enough said.

You may remember a self-quote from this post saying "...my uniform, has to be a rolled trouser, mens tee and chucks." Uniform is such a 'grrr' inducing word for many. The suggestion of conforming and forced boundaries, the inclination that self-expression is removed leaves a bitter taste in the mouths and minds of a fair few. It depends which way you look at it. You may have to lighten up what meaning the word uniform holds for you.
To me, it's another word for: signature look. It doesn't have to follow to the letter but could be more truthfully represented like this:

UNIFORM REQUIREMENTS
1x Rolled cuff garment worn on lower half of the body
1x Basic gender neutral garment with rolled sleeves worn on upper half of the body

Why I would venture to state the title of this post in plural form is beyond me, especially when it is rather clear from the photographic evidence that my blouse has a singular lacey collar and I only have on one pinafore dress.

It seems the girls dressing like boys thing is becoming the norm, which on one hand is great: I have like-minded ladies out there. One likes to feel a sense of belonging. It makes one settled. And on the other hand, this is not so great: they are gonna be biting my steez. Okay, okay, so I know I'm not the first G.D.L.B but once it hits the **mainstream good 'n' hard, what the hell am I supposed to ***wear? I either have to take things up a notch sartorially or at the very least, give it a tweak.
Anyway, if you recall this post, you'll notice that I am getting quite attached to two things -WAIT! Make that three- for this very reason. These are my tweaks:

I haven't been quick enough off the blogging mark with either major components of what I wore today. Let's remedy this and go with the adage that slow and steady wins the race.

Although I have barely taken this Sherie Muijs t-shirt off since I got it a few weeks ago, I've yet to blog myself in it. Blasphemy yes. Don't have one? Your a mug. For those who take issue about paying decent dollars for a decent t-shirt, read this by Katherine Is Awesome and know that I have worn it *13 out of 21 days of ownership. That's only $13.46 per wear already and I haven't even come close to thrashing it in accordance with my definition of a giving a garment a darn good thrashing [holes and missing pieces].
Secondly, double denim. I'm jumping on this bandwagon and enjoying the ride. Yee-har.

And yes, I do put pens in my pockets. That's what pockets are for: Putting things in.

Raglan Tees. Baseball. Caps. Three things which have heavily influenced my summer sartorial choices. I gotta say, my use of 'sartorial choices' just then could also be re-stated as my 'uniform of choice' as the rolled trouser/mens tee/mens shoe combo has been on high rotation for months now. I digress.
I don't know if baseball-fever has struck me because I watched 'A League of Their Own' recently or the subliminal messaging has worked from these two with their constant Yankee cap flaunting, raglan tee wearing blogger butts. The raglan tee and fitted cap are sorted at the minute - no doubt I'll be hankering for an ERA fitted any day now. The hunt for the perfect baseball is now on. So far, this one from Hickoree's Hard Goods is the ultimate must acquire and I recently tumbled this one. I can imagine nonchalantly tossing and catching that leathery bad boy everywhere I go. Who will hold the baby? Good point.

I still want that ball though.

I went to watch a mate of mine in the play 'I Don't Do Coconut' by the talented people at Greyview Productions with last night being, well, the last night. I'm not very...what's the word...cultured. I am cultural, being a little bit Maori, a little bit European but not exactly 'in the scene' of that which is cultured.

I haven't been to the Auckland Art Gallery.

I haven't watched subtitled film. Ever.

I don't indulge in a culturally inclined past time.

I paint walls, not pictures...you get the idea.

So when she told me about this performance, I figured I'd give it a go. And I had said, "Sorry, I can't make it," one too many times. And the title was catchy.

And I'm glad I went. I laughed. I felt sad. I identified with performing kung-fu in the bathroom when you think no one is watching. I saw a friend creating something with others, for others and I really enjoyed it. I need to do this kind of stuff more often.

And although we haven't met in real, tangible life [yet], I can imagine us making some delicious eat-y treats and having a laugh like we've been friends-since-way-back-when. Here's my Hi-Five reasons why:

1. She hand delivers sweet summer treats. How did she know I exist solely for baked goods?
2. The girl is a Kiwi- I am fiercely patriotic when it comes to wardrobe/music/art/anything choices. Never not backing New Zealand.

4. She got the stamp of approval from K-Dubster.
5. This t-shirt. This image. These pants. These shorts. Okay so technically, this takes my Hi-Fives from five to an eight count but see No.13 here.
6. She was picked for the New Generation show at NZFW 2011...a prediction chicken for bigger and better things if ever there was one. No.13 applies here again.

Katie-maree Cole's Spring/Summer 2012 collection 'she sells. seashells' is feminine and cute in a cool, distinctive way. Twisted from the saccharine side of girly into totally wearable pieces, makes this collection a perfect fit for those who like that little sumpin' sumpin' different hanging in the closet. For me, I imagine the collared shirt and 'Sugar' tee [I'm open to both incarnations of the leopard or the stripe] with rolled up mens trousers, wearing boyish shirts, sleeves rolled up with the cute print culottes or shorts all anchored with chucks or brogues. Also, you can't walk past the 'Singing The Night Away' jacket without giving it a second look, a wink and an appreciative wolf whistle.

Being a Mummy and being a blogger are two very different *hats to wear. It's challenging. Not in a solving world hunger or reducing carbon footprint sense but to me as a person, living my little life. Seeing as I am a human being [last time I checked] it comes as no surprise that I invest a lot of time on an indulgence that a lot of people see as self serving, pretentious and basically a waste of time. In the past, it was a hidden thing, "Don't show off. Don't stand out and for god sakes young man, don't blow your own trumpet." These days everyone's out there on The Intrawebz looking for a slice of god-knows-what-but-I'll-have-whatever-she's-having-thanks. Listen, we ALL have something that we dedicate time and money to that aren't our jobs or our loved ones, that is literally just a passion.

What I've Worn: Tweed Blazers and Lace Accent Brogues.

Two components you don't usually join together in holy matrimony within one outfit from the outset but it is this exact fabric juxtaposition that has gained a lot of momentum amongst a lot of designers lately, taking over from the previously touted sweet 'n' sour combo of 'Leather and Lace'. And thank god too. Over it. Well, not exactly over it but please stop using this descriptive accompanied by editorials of bondage wear parading as fashion, modelled by an innocent gal with doe eyes and lace frill socks. Thanks. I'm preferring pastel leathers with oversized lace accents and a dash of the tweedy goodness myself. Tangent alert. Back to the business at hand.

Tweed. Lace. My take is not so obvious this time around but it is a mix I will definitely be touting a lot more regularly, especially since it can add a new dimension to girls dressing as boys. My favourite look.

What I've Worn: Camo Pants.

This title alone can strike fear into the hearts of many: "Camo Pants." Did I just swear? Is there a booger on my face? Because I'm pretty sure I heard a collective gasp. I would guess readers did one of two things:

1. Clicked the link thinking it was a halloween post, or

2. Refused to click on the link thinking, "Camo pants? Hellz to the no. This, I do not want to see. But much like a horrific scene, I cannot help but have a look." Click.

There are fashion swings and round-a-bouts that no sane person would entertain the notion of climbing aboard and giving another go. I like swings, I like round-a-bouts [even though they make me very pukey] and the last time I was name called, it was in reference to me being *"not very sane". I would even hazard a guess that should Sister Wolf of Goddamit, I'm Mad! or Leandra at Man Repeller ever **read this post, one would be championing me and my pants FTW! and the other exclaiming WTF? You figure which. So, yes, I did wear camo pants...not in their renowned cargo format but in a more subdued silhouette. Just a trouser, really. Well, just a trouser is a slight understatement seeing as there is a rather strong metallic foil presence but I'm loving them. Even my outfit barometer Richie was okay with it. Alright, alright, I lie, he was not okay with it. When he thinks of camo pants, it's cargo or nothing and was mor. ti. fied. that I wore these. Abhorred even. Apparently the gilt factor triggered his gag reflex and I could "wear everything else, just change the pants."

How about.....no.

I retorted that I was mor. ti. fied. at the mere thought of him ever wearing camo cargo's and how uncool he was for still owning camo pants in their 90's/early 00's incarnation. Oh yeah, he has two pair. How I can co-exist with someone who has such a slim grasp on sartorial correctness, I do not know. We agree to disagree on many [read: most] of wardrobe choices and this was certainly one of them. The jury might be out for Richie and others but I am happily guilty in my gilted choice of trouser. So there.

Ms Prada knew what she was doing when she sent her ladeez down the catwalk in those two-tone caps and she knew that every retailer would be knocking it off before the runway show lights had gone down.

Because I cannot afford the Miu Miu version.

So leave me alone.

And can you ask Richie to leave me alone too? He hassles me every. time. He disputes the notion that not every cap should bear the name of some Metalcore band and that caps can be worn with an ensemble other than a band tee, jeans and chucks. Don't get me wrong: his look is fine but he tries to impose it on me and yeah, nah. I've worn it with all sorts of sartorial concoctions involving dresses, playsuits, jumpsuits and blazers so I have to say people, that caps. work. with. everything.

What I've Worn: A Karen Walker Tunic, Red Lips and Romans.

This outfit post is a triple threat. Okay, okay...not in the usual sense but it has three bits to it, hence the 'triple' descriptive and I thought 'triple threat' sounded far more snazzy than, well, 'three bits'. The 'threat' part comes into play because I figure each component of this ensemble, in my books, is a force to be reckoned with. Deny them at your sartorial peril.

TUNIC:
I don't need to tell you how much of a Walker-phile I am. I think 4 out of every 10 clothing items I own are K-Dubsters, which are pretty high stats for just one label. I coveted this tunic dress from Karen Walker's 'North' for an uber long time and it will easily be my summer saviour. Clean lines, boxy silhouette, contrasting oversized pockets: these alone are a triple threat. Chuck in the chambray fabrication and you're transported to Next. Level. Awesomeness. Plus, I can upgrade this bad boy when winter hits by layering a skivvy and cropped slim trousers underneath and dropping it on some socks and 4.5inch platforms...or creepers...but, let's not get ahead of ourselves here. Summerwise, there's more options for layering this piece than you'd think. Stay tun-ic-ed.

ROMANS:
As you *know, I am well and truly addicted to Roman Sandals. I. Love. Them. Richie considers them to be the epitome of horrific footwear choice and I had this to say to him, " ". Oh, I'm sorry, did you not quite get that? Yeah, that was me mouthing "I don't give a shit!" whilst gesticulating rather wildly with both middle fingers. I'm sure he isn't alone in his detestation and I won't be alone in my appreciation. Be prepared dear reader, for the Roman Sandal [not to be confused with gladiator sandals- yeuch!] is about to become an **international phenomenon after an extremely similar style plonked down the runways for Margaret Howells S/S 12 collection.

Bow down y'all, I've managed to post an outfit from a couple of weeks ago! For those who exclaim, "So friggin' what? You wanna medal? I do this shizz on the daily- no biggie. Man up, Westie!" I crap you not, snapping pics of your days outfit is no easy task when there's a 2 and a 1/2 month old Cooper in the room, your Richie is at work and you were supposed to be at Plunket ten minutes ago. Not to mention trying to complete said task with a bloody DSLR and tripod, hence why these were shot with the old compact instead. Quick, easy and of absolutely crap quality.

You take what you can get sometimes.

My fave pale blue merino v neck from Barkers: a great I-don't-know-what-the-weather-will-do-and-I-can't-be-bothered-Googling-it knit paired with my high rotation Dr Martens 1461's: they go with everything and allow me to do Mummy Duty without bailing. Uber important.

I'm 3 weeks into an obsession with bandanna placement and I wonder if we should play a game of 'Spot The Bandanna', kind of like 'Where's Wally?', except I'm the wally and you just have to find the strategically placed accessory. Just a thought. Please do not expect fruition. I'm busy playing catch up here on the blog.

Why I Need The 'Bobby' Heels By Chaos & Harmony In. My. Life.

Or perhaps the title of this post should read: 'Why Don't I Already Have The 'Bobby' Heels By Chaos & Harmony In. My. Life.?'

Quite frankly, these shoes are the best specimen I've laid my eyes on for the SS 11/12 season and if I have them shoes, I will be truly happy. The 'Bobby' in all it's leathery, dark tan goodness is the perfect summer heel that will easily translate into the perfect *winter heel and it hails from Kiwi **designers. Triple threat.

The reaction of "They're brown platforms." by Richie tells me I am backing a winner. He remains clueless if it is not metal-tee-related and my rule of thumb is, if he agrees I am on the wrong sartorial track. I'm convinced. Bobby will be mine.

I don't think I have ever typed these words on my blog before? Yves Saint Laurent. YSL. A Fashion Westie blog first. The Spring 2012 show had me fawning over the colour palette and well designed seperates that I will never afford but will become obsessed with procuring in an affordable version. I am now a fan of loden green. Big time. Bigger than big. Huge. I've decided I need metal plates on all of my shoes as well.

Metallic shoes and oversized coats featured again, making these elements [among others which I'll post later] the most consistent across all the designers spring 2012 shows and each of the recent fashion weeks.

Stella McCartney has nailed the wearable, effortless-with-a-twist type of clothing that every woman wants in her wardrobe and every woman would re-mortgage the house in order to fully kit herself in it. But there was something more on offer this time for Spring 2012 at Stella McCartney...a bit more flesh was on show, more hints of sexy and it's just what every woman wants in her wardrobe and would probably re-mortgage the house in order to.......

Paisley has been a key print that is gaining strength and I love the scrolled edges and detailings used here. Mismatched prints are still king, green shows up once more and sheer panels give the right amount of hinted flesh.

I've already gushed over Ms Prada and will not become the king of the un-cool by doing it again. But I did love the Prada Spring 2012 collection a heck of a lot. A lot, a lot. I think it was the hot-rod references that did it for me most, what with being a Westie and raised around cars, car shows, riding in cars, riding in cars at car shows....One thing must be said though, it did seem like this offering was just an extension of this collection? I'm no expert, just saying.

Miuccia Prada is a big deal for a reason. She is awesome, she is talented, she has foresight like no other and a knack for knowing what we want when it comes to a standout garment before we even knew we wanted it. Her offering for Miu Miu Spring 2012 is no different. Though I'm not partial to the folksy look, it was presented in a cleaner way and I coveted it *all, making the cull to just 5 key looks difficult. Large coats, patchwork details and laces featured heavily at Miu Miu and I feel it was quite **distinct and separate from the previously shown Prada collection. Favourite trend? Coloured lace FTW!

My cult pick has to be that shoe. Although it is a mule, which I personally detest, it is still epic.

Consuelo Castiglioni does tribal, quirky, mismatched, mixed up, yet wearable garmental mash like no one else can. It never ceases to amaze me how colours, prints and fabrics are put together in a way I could never have imagined yet once I've seen it, cannot wait to replicate. This season the Spring 2012 collection for Marni had a sleeker silhouette but retained that mash-up that I admire. I liked the addition of the sheer underskirt to elongate the look. A new take on layering is emerging from beneath: literally.

Visual confectionery. Delectable frou that I'm not accustomed to but can appreciate nonetheless. A stunningly beautiful collection at Louis Vuitton for Spring 2012 and I can't help but get caught up in the ladylike silhouettes, pretty pastels, abundance of overlaid sheers, and oversized broderie anglaise. The frothyness was hardened ever so slightly with matte crocodile coats in powdery hues. Snazzy.

Who gives good print? Dries. Who gives good pants? Dries. Enough said. The Spring 2012 collection from Dries Van Noten was a print lovers dream and I loved the skirty-slash-peplum effect on the trousers. I know, I've changed, we don't get each other anymore.

I am definitely going to subscribe to the photo-real print trend. I like it. I like it a lot. My first foray into the photo-real garment phenomena is actually a pair of hunting shorts designed to camouflage your derrier whilst, well....hunting. When the weather warms up, believe you me, they will be worn with a vengeance. Dries has given the photo-real treatment to a variety of garments, all of which are so wearable it's ridiculous.

Interesting to see just how many designers have done different variations on the broderie anglaise. In. Te. Res. Ting. Is broderie anglaise the new chambray? Plus more of the wide low slung belts, splicing details and metallic accents: this time shoes.

FW Hi-Fives at Celine Spring 2012.

Fans of the sleek, refined, streamlined Celine may have choked a little on their bespoke coffee the morning the images of the Spring 2012 collection came online. Peplums? Sculptural shapes? Fluid pants? Complex pleats? However, I am sure many have come to appreciate the garments and shift in direction. There is still an element of the reduced look she is renowned for in the restrained use of colour and lack of prints but a bolder silhouette brings some excitement back, saving the label from being tarred with the 'same-but-different' brush.

The wide belt slung low on the hip along with the dropped waistline are trends that have been bubbling under the surface for a couple of seasons now, so safe to say it is cemented as a must-do. Meanwhile, the oversized proportion jacket and use of reds and greens have been a common occurrence for Spring 2012.

I've never been a comfortable wearer of dresses , usually finding them too girly, too much *hassle and just not condusive to my penchant for dressing on the boyish tip. But lately there has been a shift of sorts as I find myself hankering for a more feminine option, though preferably hardened by the use of mannish cuts or fabrication. I'll do the girly girl dress one day...probably with mens shoes and a flash worthy pair of underpants like these from VPL.

I was quite surprised at Cacharels Spring 2012 collection as it's not a label I usually pay much attention to and admittedly, I only gave the collection a second look because of the blue dresses and shorts suit. It was when I found myself lingering on the peachy, printed numbers that I thought, hey, maybe I really am turning a sartorial leaf? Or it could just be the collar and flap details that I'm a sucker for. Either way, high five me Cacharel.

Licorice Allsorts and Salt Water Taffy: The candies of champions. And that's what I immediately thought of when I saw the Spring 2012 collection from Carven. The sugary brights and the use of black leather are definitely my jam....or is that candy?

Major trends seen across the fashion week showings were cutout elements and the shorts suit while the collar has remained a strong focus too. Collars are Boss. I'm all about giving good collar.

I will be doing a fair few round up posts of my favourite looks from the recent London, Paris, Milan and New York Fashion Weeks. Slow? Yes, but I'm not here to bring you the breaking news. I am all about the slow and steady winning the race, giving each collection the chance to absorb into the blood stream and filter out what I feel are the Top 5.

First was my post on Kanye Wests' Dw Debut at PFW and now my top picks from Balenciaga Spring 2012.

I thought the fabric choice paired with boxy cuts was a winner and I see the use of the spliced/panelling component is a major design thread weaved through many designers collections for the upcoming season. The colour palette totally appeals and the accessories are lust worthy. The shorts have 'hit' woven into the DNA and throughout the collection there are cult pieces aplenty: firstly, those winged shoes FTW!

10 Northcroft Street, Takapuna, Auckland, New Zealand. Remember that address. Write it down. Enter it in the GPS and get there. Visit The Department Store and be prepared for the damage you will do to your wallet because, man, you are going to daydream of swanning through the place nonchalantly *declaring, "I'll take one of everything, have my driver load them in the other, other Benz." when you see what they have instore for you this Spring/Summer. Maybe make those appointments with your bank manager and Shopperholic's Anonymous after you've been- you don't want them raining on your parade.

I, along with many others, am **no stranger to the delights within its multi-levels of epic goodness and can often be found parked in La Boulange to indulge in a caffeine + scrummy-little-something-yummy refuel before resuming my hunt for the next must-have purchase and providing me with energy for the inevitable cull through the huge 'WANT' pile. Needless to say, I never leave empty handed and always with something that invokes an internal squeal of delight, a secret little fist pump so as to retain my cool-kid exterior and a little Fred Astaire dance action on the walk back to the car, iconic ***kraft brown bag swinging. I'm a TDSophile. I haven't had the pleasure of a session at Lucy and the Powder Room, dropped any ducats at Nature Baby, nor been able to make a ****final decision on a purchase from Simon James Concept Store but without a doubt, this will change.

The Goodie Bag

Last night, I had the distinct pleasure of attending The Department Store's S/S 12 show [as a +1 but I'll take it- thanks Leesh!] held in the familiar territory of it's Takapuna store. Presenting key looks from the latest available ranges by Karen Walker, Topshop, TopMan and the brands represented by Black Box, the models walked a tricky-but-oh-so-cool runway combo from top level down to the ground floor. The turnout was epic with the fashion pack, models, bloggers, local musician and tv talent in the mix....and then there was me. Small Fish in a Big Pond. I won't lie. I was visually name tagging everyone I 'knew' of. So uncool, I know. The bonus was I got to wear my Sherie Muijs jumpsuit [again] and new leather collar anchored with my fave Karen Walker 'Birdies' shirt and Litas [don't say it, I needed the height]. Alexander Wang kept me warm in the form of a black quilted jacket. An outfit post is in the works.
